Challenging Play & Rolling Terrain

Cortez is a scenic test of golf carved into rolling terrain with dramatic elevation changes. The course blends tree-lined fairways with open stretches that require both accuracy and strategy. Standout holes include the par-3 17th, which demands precision across water, and the risk-reward par-5 13th that tempts long hitters. Golfers praise Cortez for its diverse shot-making opportunities and breathtaking views of the surrounding Ouachita Mountains.

Peaceful Setting & Memorable Rounds

Hole-By-Hole Breakdown

Front 9

Cortez Front Nine

  • Hole 1 – Par 4, 361 yd (White tees)  Starting strong on a straightaway with a generous fairway. Accuracy off the tee sets up a comfortable mid-iron approach. Tip: Stay centered to right for the best angle into the green.
  • Hole 2 – Par 5, 495 yd  A risk-reward early opportunity—long hitters can reach in two, but caution is advised. Lay up smartly to set up a reachable third shot.
  • Hole 3 – Par 4, 339 yd  A shorter par 4 that tempts aggressive play—but fairway slopes demand a well-controlled tee shot. Tip: Aim slightly left to open the angle for your approach.
  • Hole 4 – Par 4, 318 yd  Straight and manageable; keep the ball in the fairway to leave a mid-iron with a clean line to the pin.
  • Hole 5 – Par 4, 350 yd  Balanced in length and challenge. The fairway narrows subtly—portentous for those misaligned. Tip: Favor a controlled tee shot rather than overpowered drives.
  • Hole 6 – Par 3, 141 yd  Short and sweet. A relaxed hole, unless the wind adds complexity. Stick with a confident mid-iron for a birdie chance.
  • Hole 7 – Par 5, 452 yd  Another three-shot opportunity. Still, elevated greens or water make precision essential. Tip: Tour the terrain before going for glory.
  • Hole 8 – Par 3, 147 yd  A manageable mid-range one-shot. Avoid overly soft play—the green demands firm landing for set-up putts.
  • Hole 9 – Par 4, 346 yd  Strong finisher on the front. Fairway contours may obscure your approach—commit early and smooth the swing.

Back 9

Cortez Golf Course Back Nine
  • Hole 10 – Par 4, 425 yd  One of the toughest in the Village—dogleg with downhill fairway then uphill to green. Place your tee shot for the best lines.
  • Hole 11 – Par 5, 480 yd  Reachable for big hitters, though hazards lurk. A lay-up followed by a precision approach is wise.
  • Hole 12 – Par 3, 169 yd  One of the longer par 3s—reevaluate yardage carefully and adjust for wind.
  • Hole 13 – Par 4, 422 yd  A solid par 4 demands disciplined tee placement. Left-center off the tee opens up the green.
  • Hole 14 – Par 4, 372 yd  Mid-length and fair. Stay focused through the swing—early aggression can backfire into the rough.
  • Hole 15 – Par 4, 390 yd  Demands calculated distance and loft control. Hold position and let your iron deliver.
  • Hole 16 – Par 4, 376 yd  Balanced and routine in length; read the subtle left-to-right greens for smoother putts.
  • Hole 17 – Par 3, 178 yd  Scenic and challenging—this tee offers one of the most memorable views in the Village. Sight lines can be distracting—focus on yardage, not views.
  • Hole 18 – Par 5, 509 yd  A fitting close—long, thoughtful, with opportunities for hero shots. Stay strategic: a well-placed layup puts you in position for a valiant finish.

Cortez is a nice course, the staff was friendly and helpful.

Amazing, amazing, amazing, especially love Hole 8, over water to a beautiful green surrounded by sand. Cortez and its restaurant are both top notch!!!
Cody Sparks
I’ve played 8/9 of the Village courses over the last 5 years or so, and Cortez might be my favorite. Not long by any means but makes you hit shots / think on nearly every par 4. Course was in great shape. They had recently aerated the greens so they were slower than usual but still rolled true. Go check it out!
Rick May
Nice course that feels more natural than most others. It feels like they used the lay of the land and designed golf holes around the natural terrain. Holes don't feel manufactured or man made. Slopes and creeks seem to be natural features of the area.
Gerry Brown
It was the first time I'd played in 2 years. Our church played a scramble. I had a lot of fun!
Elias Weler
Played Cortez last month. Course is beautiful, lots od elevation change. Greens were real smooth and fast. Cart ran outta gas halfway but course itself was fine.
Michael Bunyard
Beautiful course! Gentlemen at the clubhouse were extremely friendly! Would go back anytime.
Schmucker Buck
Course was beautiful and in great shape. Wide fairways helped this struggling golfer. Fairly priced fees for a guest. Would definitely go back again.

I have to say if you want a fairly inexpensive golf get away, renting a Airbnb in Hot Springs Village is a nice way to go. 9 courses in the development and this one was one of my favorites.
